Unfortunately, since the ceremony last August, Lumin Bells have split. So we caught up with Mick Dolan, formerly of the band.

How did it feel to win Ones To Watch Award 2013?

Firstly thank-you for the opportunity to talk about winning the award, it was a great surprise and one of the best nights of my life. It has to be said it wouldn’t have happened without the help and hard work of Kerry Turley. It was a massive confidence boost and the awards themselves were incredible, I will be entering again this year for sure.

What were you highlights of 2013?

I have started a new band called Windmill and we have our first single out on Jack To Phono called Birdman, it has been one of Tom Robinson’s favourite tracks of this year and had extensive radio play on BBC6 music, XFM, Simon Raymonde’s show and Dave Monks’ show. We are managed by Jack Launer who owns Baltic Records with Dave Pitchilingi, all of which were definitely highlights of last year.

What are your plans for 2014?

As for this year and looking forwards, we have just shot a video with Phil Shotton and Jez Hogg who have worked extensively with the Happy Mondays and New Order. We cant wait to release it! We have started recording our first album (songs I have written within the last 6 months) and we are very busy rehearsing for dates being organised by Jack Launer. We will definitely be entering the Liverpool Music Awards this year and hope we can do well.

What is your favourite Venue in Liverpool? Why?

My favourite venue in Liverpool at the moment is Leaf, it has a great vibe and a great stage.

Are there any Liverpool bands/Artists that have caught your eye recently?

Bird are a definite favourite of mine and I love them, I was in the band from the beginning with Adele. They are superbly atmospheric and can kill you with a whisper. Ivan Campo are a must !! Delicate intertwining melody with incredible lyrics, they create mini magical worlds within each song. Mick Head and the Red Elastic Band, what can you say about this man that hasn’t already been said ? The most important songwriter from Liverpool since Lennon and McCartney ? One of my favourite musicians ever.
